Hytec Cooling specialises in the design and construction of fumigation projects Australia wide. Working closely with some of Australia’s leading perishable freight forwarding companies has enabled us to assist in the secure establishment of fumigation chambers for fresh produce. Hytec Cooling understands that the stringent treatment conditions required to address each state or countries individual biosecurity requires specific methodology. We therefore assist clients in gaining permission to build fumigation chambers from the Department of Agriculture and NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA), with our fumigation consultant partners.
For more information on fumigation and the requirements for construction see below.
Managing Fumigation at Hytec
Fumigation activities involve the use of fumigant gases, such as methyl bromide, which is the primary instrument for fumigation on commodities and/or specific packaging for Quarantine and Pre-shipment (QPS) treatments. At Hytec we understand that the primary function of a fumigation chambers is to enable the QPS fumigation to occur both safely and efficiently. At Hytec Cooling we consider all the foundation elements of a proficient fumigation chamber including:
- Gas impervious construction
- Systematic interface for the application and distribution of the fumigant
- Efficient system for fumigant removal post-treatment
- Sited to manage infested products conveniently
- Sited and operated to eliminate all hazards to personnel
Hytec considers all variables in the design and construction of chambers from the type of fumigant to be used to the type of products and methods of handling. In doing so we can accommodate a wide variation in designs of atmospheric fumigation chambers.
Government Specifications for the Construction of Fumigation Chambers
The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (DAWR) enforces the policies and programs regarding biosecurity measures such as fumigation. The NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA) further acts as the primary environmental regulator for NSW. Fumigant gases such as methyl bromide are ozone depleting substances and thus their use is heavily regulated. Hytec understands that fumigation treatment providers must register to perform treatments and provide evidence of compliance.
